DIY Loose Crop Tee Made Of Men’s T-Shirt
Remember my recent teaser with a cropped yellow tee? 😉 Today I will tell you how I make it 🙂
My dear friend Myriam agreed to pose for this post. She is an ideal model for this kind of style: Bold, sassy, and colorful!
Supplies You Need For This DIY
So, to make yourself a crop tee, you will need:
- an over sized men’s t-shirt
- scissors
- pins
- fabric pencil
DIY Instructions
First, fold the t-shirt flat in half. Then draw the cut lines around the sleeve and the neckline. Make the shoulder length a couple of inches. Start the neckline next to the existing one; you should not make it too big, because it will stretch with the time.
Before starting cutting, pin the t-shirt layers together to prevent them to shift. Then cut!
Now do the bottom line. Try it out in front of the mirror and marked where you would like to have the bottom line cut. If you plan to wear it with high waste pants and jeans, the line should be somewhere next to your waste line. If you want to wear it with low waste pants and do not want to show too much of belly, it can be a bit lower that your waste line. This is the case when the beauty of DIY shines to its fullest: You make an item that fits YOUR personal style and YOUR personal habits 😉
After marking the bottom line, do the same pinning and cutting as you did before for the arm holes and the neck line.
Now unfold your tee and examine the cuts. You may need to make the cut line smoother. It looks like your top is almost ready! However, it can look even more special: Now we are about to give it some twist 😉
Take the bottom part you have just cut off and сге off a long strip by going spiral around the bottom.
The length of the strip should be 3-4 times as long as the length of the neckline.
Make a cord out of the strip. To do so, just stretch the strip until its edges roll inside. It will turn into a nice thick rope.
Now put the pins in around the neckline equally with about 1/2 inch gap
Take the scissors and make a small cut at the spots where the pins are while removing them. In the end you should have a nice dash line made of cuts.
Now take the cord and swipe it around the edge of the neck line.
Start with the middle of the cord from the middle of the back…
…and finish in the front.
Tie a knot of the ends of the cord and trim them.
You can decorate any other edges of the tee the same way. Try the bottom line or the arm holes, or both!
