DIY: Polka Dot Jeans

Polka dots is a  trendy pattern this season! This is a good news, because it is really easy to make it yourself. Here is my DIY for you 🙂

I bought this pair of ordinary skinny jeans at a second hand store for $5.

To do stamping, I used the same tools that I got when did my first stamped denim.

There was still some paint left from the last time. I decided to use the dark blue one to achieve a bit subtle ornament. Since I wanted to make dots, I needed to use cylindrical objects as stampers. Something like… wine corks!

I tried two different corks, one made of the natural material and one made of plastic. The plastic cork worked the best: it gave round and neat dots. The middle of the dots turned out to be lighter than the edges, but this imperfection only gave the pattern some interesting character.

I also tried two different layouts and chose the checkerboard one.

Let’s stamp!

I stretched the top of the pants and put a flat wooden board inside. To obtain the best result, it was important to make the surface even.

When I ran out of the paint, I added more and started to stamp in the opposite direction, from the down up to the top. It helped to keep the intensity of the pattern evenly distributed over the item.

The front part got done! Flipped the jeans to make the back.

After stamping was finished, the paint needed to get fixed.

Fixing by ironing was long and inconvenient, so I used the oven the same way as the last time. I baked the pants for 5 min on each side with the temperature 300F.

And here come my upcycled jeans!

The pattern does not look very bold, but I like it this way. It is bright enough to attract the attention 🙂
